Tapas, tapas, tapas!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hola,

On our first day in Seville, we went to a close by restaurant for lunch – we had just woken up.  Because of the time change it, none of us had not adjusted to the time yet.  It felt like it was two in the morning in Nicaragua, but local time it was noon.  Plus, we had travelled for over 30hrs getting here.

The restaurant that we went to had most of the seating outside, and was fairly busy.  The first thing I noticed was that there was bucket under the table.  My first thought about it was it was accidental thing, then I noticed that it was hanging from the table.  I noticed that there was buckets near or underneath most of the tables.  As we walked along some of the other streets many of the outdoor restaurants had some buckets.  While we waited for our food I asked my Mom what the bucket was for she said it was for garbage. I think that some of the other restaurants didn’t have buckets, mainly the indoor ones or some just didn’t have them.  Anyways, the first restaurant that we went to was pretty fast but the food wasn’t the best.  The food that we had for dinner made up for it though.

We went to restaurant sort of near the cathedral.  We are getting used to getting tapas although, at this particularly meal we only got tapas.  Tapas are basically just smaller versions of the regular plate.

At the start we got, lamb with roasted vegetables, duck with an apple both in a red berry sauce, pork with a hazelnut sauce breaded in chopped hazelnut and breadcrumbs, salmon in lots of spices and salmon sashimi with the same spices as the other salmon dish.  We ended up getting another duck dish, tapa sized as well as some beef with mashed potatos made with truffles an truffle oil.  This is the first time that I have had a dish that was made with truffles  or truffle oil.  I can’t believe that my parents have held it back from me for this long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is also lots of sausage meats here.  The acorn-fed jamon iberica is really special.

The next day I did a little better on waking up, I woke up around seven a.m.  Although too early for my sisters tastes, I wanted to go get groceries for breakfast.  They slept in until eight. After we were all ready, we went to the store to get ingredients for breakfast.  We got some stuff for breakfast and some snacks.  Some of the other restaurants we went to were okay but, another one of the highlights was one of the last restaurants we went to.  We had been locked out of our house and just gotten out of a procession and we needed  a place to eat.  We went to a place nearby and got some food, that time we got some paella, some beef that was very lightily seared, they also brought out a scalding pan that you could cook your meat on.  There was also chicken curry with a little bit of rice, some lamb that was served on top of couscous, breaded chicken and some amazing pork. The pork was tender and a bit salty – my personal favorite but my sisters liked some of the other things.

Here in Mijas we went to a Michelin star restaurant, we did a fourteen (!!!!) course tasting menu!   Some of the dishes only the adults got but, they always shared.  Some of the most memorable dishes were the sea urchin, the stingray, the beef and potatoes and the dessert.  The dessert was a lemon ice cream with tiny lemon meringues that exploded on your tongue, banana custard and thin dry pasta-like sweet thing.  The sea urchin was not my favorite dish but it was memorable, it had an apple foam on top and underneath, there was the actual sea urchin meat I can’t describe it, but the texture was kind of spongy.  My two favorite dishes, the stingray and the beef, were very different. The beef was very tender and was served with some pureed potatoes that tasted like they had truffle oil and\or truffles in them.  The stingray on the other hand was tangy and salty, it didn’t taste like seafood at all.

I look forward to try new foods but still enjoy the old.
