Working on the farm in Arenal is really fun! There are black and white ducks, sheep and little lambs, 2-3 different types of chickens of which are mostly hens, and cows, along with 2 calves. One of which was newborn! It was really cute.
Critters In Costa Rica
There are plenty of land animals in Costa Rica. We have seen monkeys, lots of stray dogs, and some coatis. The monkeys that you commonly see here are howler monkeys. We saw howler monkeys when it was sunset, as they usually come out around sunrise and sunset. Other monkeys that are in Guanacaste are white faced monkeys, and sometimes spider monkeys. Our 1st trip outside of visiting the magic kingdom was to Costa Rica in 1998. As we hung out waiting for our flight to Central America in the LAX terminal, culture shock hit me. I couldn’t understand the instructions given over the PA by the airline attendant. I suffered in absolute dread: where were we going & what have I done. Sensing my discomfort, Rhoneil assured me those words were in English… that wasn’t reassuring! There was an overwhelming mix of passengers including many people headed to Guatamala carrying chicken. Mutual exclusivity of Zen and Parenthood?
It’s hot. Muy caliente. Of course, maybe it just feels that way with a 50-degree shift – from minus 15 to plus 35. It’s mid-afternoon by the time we get to the beach in Playa Hermosa, and the clouds have started gathering, with the wind picking up in bursts. I sit on the black sand next to Nadine, wondering if the sun will peak out through the clouds again – I want to feel even warmer so that I get the courage to dare go into the water. Continue reading
